Fair 2010: “Selected Rugs”

The innovative lead collection for extroverted, high-quality sized carpet creations from Vorwerk Carpets is called “Selected Rugs”.

For 2010 the collection presents 6 new models with strong characters that elevate the floor to a stage of modern living space: “Steel”, “Karacta”, “Field”, “Twin”, “Vex” and the design variations “Via” and “Meandro” exhibit luxurious, unusual and sensual qualities that promise a comprehensive design offer for the up-to-date home in a wide variety of colour constellations.
Lively contrasts are the guiding line for the new “Selected Rugs” models: structure, a tactile feel, materiality – what seemingly cannot harmonise at first glance is combined in the new creations to perfection. Extraordinary combinations comprised of paper and metal structures, cord-like, sturdy and filigree shimmering threads, fleecy, high-pile frisés and cool wool/linen blends dominate the design statement.
These new articles from the Vorwerk “Selected Rugs” collection will be available as of April 2010 at interior furnishers in the upmarket segment. “Selected Rugs” is going to be presented to the trade public for the first time at the international furniture exhibition imm cologne (pure village) from the 19th to the 24th of January, 2010.

With more thought in mind – conceptual carpets, unconventional luxury

Extravagant, innovative and very high in quality is how this new creation entitled “Selected Rugs” is presenting itself; as exclusive models from Vorwerk Carpets clustered in the holistic context of a lead collection.
Starting now, “tundra”, “hammada” and “sahara”, luxurious sized area rugs in the upmarket category which Vorwerk previously launched successfully, are also being integrated under the “Selected Rugs” collection umbrella.

Johannes Schulte, CEO at Vorwerk Teppichwerke: “With ‘tundra’, ‘sahara’ and ‘hammada’ we established luxury in the matter of floor design. A logical further development, and simultaneously a completely new dimension, is being created by launching the lead collection for special, high-quality rug designs – ‘Selected Rugs’. In alignment with our Transflooring philosophy, it is important to us to transform floors into worlds, to generate an awareness for them as an active, design-related element of a room. With ‘Selected Rugs’ we are turning individuality into a programme: personal, experimental and timeless. For instance, the new model ‘Steel’ for 2010 embodies the close correlation design has to other cultural developments in architecture and art through its new type of surface effect and the choice of materials. Reflections on the topic of ‘reflections’ never pondered before come into play.”

Sized individuality
Creative accents in a room that can be set individually and provide impulses for the contemporary lifestyle of a design-oriented audience arise with Vorwerk “Selected Rugs”. The leitmotif of contrasting surfaces is being interpreted in the interaction of matte/glossy effects on the one hand, and on the other through a subtle two-tonedness. Each of the 6 variations is manufactured in high quality as a one-of-its-kind in the size desired by the customer, either painstakingly hand-crafted or machine-made via state-of-the-art production methods. In combination with the widest variety of flooring materials, for example stone, wood or wall-to-wall carpeting, these rug creations form new images that mark the surface.

Steel

The combination of materials for a rug couldn’t sound more unusual.
Top-twisted paper gives a matted look, while shimmering metal fibres refract the light artificially. An effect that turns into a sparkling flooring experience across the area, and at a closer look reveals its wonderful linear structure. It appears to be technical, strict – yet without seeming cool. Coupled with silver or copper-red metal insets, three colour variations – Natural, Negro and Café – bank on an innovative naturalness.

Karacta

Contrasts embrace: A handwoven cord-like structure made of the highestgrade virgin wool with a three-centimetre diameter gives this handweave its striking face. Brightly glossy synthetic fibres accompany and illuminate the bold construction design strong as rope. An open-work look that captivates through matte/glossy and high/low effects. Four earthy shades from woolly white to sand, mud and black allow the design to breathe.

Field
Movement dominates the appearance of this hand-tufted carpet “Field”. A dense, especially high pile made of pure virgin wool creates a sublime, dry surface effect. The interplay of this rug creation can be described as discreetly two-toned: starkly twisted, colour-co-ordinated threads blend discreetly into the structure and break up the monochrome look. An abundance of 12 aesthetic hues sets no bounds to interior design freedom in a discerning home ambience.

Twin
An extravagant patina effect is what sets the particular attractiveness of the “Twin” rug in linen/wool apart. The effect is generated by the unconventional blend of linen and wool threads. The even bounce of loop and velours forms a sophisticated rib structure that is refined by a tonally two-coloured design. Here too 12 colours are available – from stylish shades of magenta straight through to sensitive neutrals and an opulent midnight blue.

Via and Meandro

With the models “Via” and “Meandro”, innovative luxury is expressed through enlightened designs for a design-oriented public. Organic, drop-shaped or graphic, linear patterns receive a distinguished presence through their highgrade base of wool yarns and the combination of linen and wool. A geometric block stripe dominates the linear look of one model. Here the interplay of matte-structured and glossy-smooth sequences produces an exciting lightand- dark-coloured effect. The second design banks on a strong line layout, too. Contours running on a meandering course create a seemingly twofold colouring here as well. As if sketched by water on a mudflat, raised and lowered relief structures result in an organic, flowing feel. Appropriately, the colour scheme recalls a natural shade of sand and a rich shade of violet.

Vex
This model’s thrilling structure is defined by dynamics. Matte/glossy effects and an elegant colouration accentuate the high-pile appearance given off by this voluminous shag. The use of different-coloured threads along with the diversity of directions in which the pile falls results in an open, shimmering surface effect. Eight to ten up-to-date shades underscore this creation’s discreet lustre.
